Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi is an American politician who served as the 52nd Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. She is the first woman to hold the speakership and has been a prominent figure in the Democratic Party. Pelosi has represented California’s 12th congressional district in the U.S. House since 1987.

Pelosi was born in Baltimore, Maryland, into a family deeply involved in politics. Her father, Thomas D’Alesandro Jr., served as Mayor of Baltimore and as a U.S. Representative.
