Klay Thompson
Klay Alexander Thompson is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Widely regarded as one of the greatest three-point shooters in league history, Thompson has been a cornerstone of the Warriors' dynasty, winning multiple NBA championships and earning several All-Star selections.
Born on February 8, 1990, in Los Angeles, California, Thompson is the son of former NBA first overall pick Mychal Thompson. He played college basketball at Washington State University, where he averaged 21.6 points per game in his sophomore season and was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team. He declared for the 2011 NBA draft and was selected with the 11th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors.
Thompson quickly established himself as a premier two-way guard, combining elite three-point shooting with tenacious defense. He was part of the Warriors' first championship team in 2015 and helped the team set the record for most wins in a regular season (73-9) in 2016. His individual accolades include five NBA All-Star appearances, two All-NBA Third Team selections, and one All-Defensive Second Team honor.
In 2015, Thompson set the NBA record for most points in a quarter (37) and in 2016 he scored 60 points in just 29 minutes against the Indiana Pacers, becoming one of only a handful of players to reach 60 points in under 30 minutes. He also won a gold medal with the United States men's national team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
After suffering a torn ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals and an Achilles injury in late 2020, Thompson missed two full seasons. He made his return in January 2022 and played a key role in the Warriors' fourth championship in eight years later that season. His resilience and shooting prowess continue to inspire fans and peers alike.
Off the court, Thompson is known for his love of dogs, especially his English bulldog Rocco, and his calm, easygoing personality. He has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including youth basketball camps and community outreach programs in the Bay Area.
Thompson remains an active player for the Warriors, and his legacy as one of the best shooters in NBA history is firmly established.
